Age Ain't Nothing But A Number

Most of us have heard that expression, and it is so true. Time is also a number. How I have used the time alloted to me today has usually impacted on my tomorrow. Did I take a good matched set of luggage into my older years or did I drag a tacky set of,"woe is me" baggage.
The cold reality is, that no one gives a rat's ass if I had elected to waste my life. If a person lives a boring life; in all probability they will be a boring older person. And to make matters worse this unrelenting boredom will usually be inflicted on others. Do some thing to feel life. I believe life is to be lived. I do not live through, for or require the approval of other people.
When my email address comes up on that big monitor it will be to late Baby to say," I woulda, I shoulda, I coulda".
Laughter is very therapeutic for me. There is a lot of humor to
to be enjoyed, that will not hurt you or any one else.
Try it and answer this question: When is the last time I---------------------------? Take all the space that you may need

Training for the South Pole at Lone Mountain Ranch

Located in Big Sky, Montana, I bedded down at the ranch surrounded by a warm and friendly staff. There was no doubt in my mind that I had picked a winner; I felt at home at Lone Mountain Ranch.
The last time I was on skis was April 23, 2007 ( North Pole) It was also in 2007 at the age of 75 that I learned to Cross Country Ski. I think it is fair to conclude that I am not a serious contender for an Olympic Gold Metal-smile. My instructors were excellent, knowledgeable yet patient. Thank you, Herb and Amy, you are the best.
Unfortunately there are few civilized pleasures left in the world today, however, fine dining is one of them (also known as stuffing your face). At Lone Mountain Ranch, there is a real linkage between good food and presentation. Trust me-I enjoyed.
Yellowstone National Park was right next door so I dropped in to say howdy to the bison and elk. Hello, to the super cool folks that I met from Alaska on snowmobiles-I loved your spirit and sense of humor.
Good night to all and my supporters in the State of Washington.

Lone Mountain Ranch, Big Sky ,Montana

It has been a while-you probably thought that I had fallen off the face of the earth. No my friends. I was in the beautiful State of Montana. Big Sky, and what a wonderful place. The stars float down and gently kiss the trees and the mountains caress you all day long. If you want to see Mother Nature strut her stuff, then this is the place.

I stayed at The Lone Mountain Ranch, to take cross country ski lessons. The high altitude also helped to prepare me for my South Pole quest.

Tired from my trip- we will talk more tomorrow about the North Pole and my stay in Montana. Good Night to all and my supporters in the State of Washington. Please say hello to me on my Blog.

Boarding, It's now Show Time

Good afternoon everyone. Before I start to run my mouth, I would like to send warm and best wishes to people all over the world for their support and interest in my polar quests. I am proud to share with you that this site has recently received visits from Canada, Egypt, Germany, Kenya, Mexico, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia and Sweden.

How did you reach the North Pole? This is a question that I have been asked repeatedly. On April 23,2007 I flew out of Newark Airport,on SAS Airlines. I am happy that I am "old school" because as a child I was taught three important words-Please and Thank you. Thank you, to all the wonderful staff of SAS Airlines for your hospitality and support. When I said goodbye to my friends and walked through the gates alone I wondered if this was going to be a one way trip? Now, to make matters worse, I heard a icy voice in my head say "Hey stupid, have you lost your -------mind". It was during this void or pre-flight time the kind and Human Staff of SAS Airlines could not have been nicer.
Fly SAS folks.

From Newark Airport to Sweden, then Norway, and onward! North again by jet for about five hours to Longyearbyen on the Island of Svalbard. Am I now near the North Pole? As we say in New York City, "forget about it". See you tomorrow

First things first....

Well folks I am back. First things first, I am not wild about writing but I will make every effort to make this an interesting and fun excursion. There are two things that I really enjoy doing, the first is thinking and the second is maintaining my sense of humor. You are probably asking yourself, "what about the North Pole"? Patience my friends.

Polar travel in most instances does not fit into the conventional mold of travel and/or vacation travel. The adventure started the minute decided that I was going to be the first Black or African American woman to reach the North Pole. In my seventy six years on this earth I have been Colored, Negro, Black and now Bingo! African American. I decided that when I became Black that was as far as I was going to go. Have you ever wondered why the concept of labels is perpetuated in this country.? So have I.

When I made up my mind and said to myself, "Barbara you are going
to go to the North Pole" I began to know highways of heaven and hell and hell and heaven. My first order of business was to try to identify what I did not know. Now, that presents a couple of questions. How will I know what I don't know? How do I find out what I do not know? Think about it - seventy five year old Black woman decides to ski to the North Pole, as a lung cancer survivor, with no money. Is it heaven or hell? Premature, at that point I would say it took- What did Michael Jordan play?

See you soon
